An electric food warming mat is simple to use, but a few habits make the results better. This guide covers setup, temperature levels, timers and the child lock on LNNIW mats.
Step by step
- Choose a safe, flat surface. Place the mat on a stable, dry, heat-tolerant table or counter. If a heat-resistant pad is included, place it underneath.
- Plug in to a wall outlet. Avoid extension cords if possible and keep the cord clear of walkways.
- Select a temperature. LNNIW mats offer six levels: 122, 140, 158, 176, 194 and 212°F (50–100°C).
- Set the timer. Choose a preset from 1 to 6 hours. The mat turns itself off at the end.
- Preheat for a few minutes, then place your covered dishes on the mat.
- Lock the controls if children are nearby. On the LNNIW warming mats, long-press the power button to engage the child lock.
Which temperature should I use?
- 140–158°F: holding fully cooked dishes at safe serving temperature.
- 176–194°F: dense dishes such as casseroles and roasts, or when the room is cool.
- 212°F: brief, fast warming; keep an eye on delicate foods.
- 122°F: gentle warmth for bread, pastries or pancakes, not for long-term holding of perishable food.
Food safety guidance from the USDA recommends keeping hot food at 140°F (60°C) or above. Use a food thermometer to check your dishes.
Tips for even heating
- Use dishes with flat bottoms so they make full contact with the mat.
- Cover food with lids or foil to retain moisture.
- Don't stack dishes on top of each other.
- Wipe up spills promptly while the mat is cool.
Don'ts
- Don't cut food directly on the mat.
- Don't cover the mat with towels or blankets while it heats.
- Don't use damaged cords or leave the mat unattended for extended periods.
